Week 5 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 5 of Term 2.  Have a chat with your child about how they are choosing to be more with their learning.  Some possible discussion ideas could be: why is learning about soil and plants so important, what is something you have learned in Maths this week and can you show me, what is the persuasive argument you are writing about, and why do you believe in your statement, etc.

INQUIRY TRIP - We really nearly more parent help please
You should have received a notice home about our Inquiry trip for Wednesday 5th of June plus an email copy. This will connect with our learning about native plants.  If you have not put your name down for parent help, and you can assist us on this trip, we would really appreciate it.

TEACHER ONLY DAY
Below is an excerpt from the newsletter that was sent out last week (Skids will be open if you need to enrol your child):
In addition to these events, our Community of Learning (Kahui ako) will meet
at a teacher only day on Friday 31 May. This will involve 9 Kaiapoi schools and provide
teachers with professional development alongside those from neighbouring schools. We
hope this will offer families the opportunity for an extra long weekend when combined with
the Queen’s Birthday holiday on Monday 3 June.

TEACHER STRIKE DAY + TEACHER ONLY DAY
Kia ora koutou
Our Kāhui Ako or Community of Learning has 9 schools and we want to collectively put out a letter to our school whanau about the upcoming strike and Teacher Only Day. As you will be aware there is a teachers’ strike planned for Wednesday 29th May. In addition to this, Kātote Schools Kāhui Ako have a Teacher Only Day planned for Friday 31st May.

The date for the Teacher Only Day was set last year so all schools could commit to it and allow us to
book keynote speakers and presentations. With the strike day being set now on Wednesday 29th we
understand the disruption both days falling in the same week may cause some families. Some schools
will be able to offer OSCAR programmes on one or both of these days, however our schools will all
be closed for instruction on both days. The exception is St Patrick’s who have been able to staff
their school with non union teachers on Wednesday 29th May.We greatly appreciate your support as we aim to ensure our schools are better resourced for teachingand learning and continue to provide opportunities for the professional development of our staff.
