(Choose to be more!)

Kia ora,
Welcome to Week 9.  A big thank you for all of your support and help during this year (hence the whakatauki above).  We have appreciated your assistance, and we know that there will be a lot of memories that will be remembered for years to come.  We farewell some children from our team, and wish them the best in their futures.

INQUIRY
We were very lucky to be given plants/trees from Trees for Canterbury earlier this term.  Hōpara have adopted one of these plants, and have studied about this plant (refer to the seesaw post).  On Thursday we planted these at school.  Many skills were learnt, and team work was awesome! Enjoy the photos below.

Week 3 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia ora,
Welcome to Week 3 of Term 3. You should all be shared into your child's blogs.  These are where the children are keeping a record of their learning and reflections, which you will see on Seesaw throughout the term.  We are very proud of the collaborative skills that the children are showing (hence the whakatauki above).

TIMETABLE
Over the last few years, we have often integrated Literacy in with our Inquiry as much as possible (which meant that we were doing Literacy and Inquiry during the mid and last sessions of the day).

We will be fully integrating our Literacy, Mathematics and Digital Technologies programmes, into the great 'Youtube/Website Company Challenge!' Hōpara and Matawara will be combining their talents, in across team groups of 5 students, and will be  creating their own company. Each company will need to develop their vision and focus, and create content for their website that others will want to learn from or view. We can't wait to see what the kids come up with!

This programme will run Monday - Wednesday from 9:15am - 12:30pm and some time on a Friday, and will incorporate our core curriculum subjects, in addition to Leadership and our Pastoral Care programmes. Each student has their own 'home teacher' (not necessarily their 'team' teacher) who will be guiding them through this exciting learning, in addition to the associated assessment within it.
NOTE - you may receive Seesaw posts from teachers other than your child's team teachers this term.

DATES TO NOTE AROUND THIS -
The following are workshops that will run to inform you about the processes we are following for this learning. Feel free to attend all!
* Parent information Evening - 14 August - 5pm

DEVICES AND APPS
If your child has a device that they can bring to school, this would be beneficial, as the use of devices will be huge amongst our teams.  The following apps or programmes would be helpful to have: Doink greenscreen and animation, stopmotion, imovie, google slides, google docs, google email, google drive.

FIELD PLAYING
Due to our winter conditions, if your child wants to play on the grass, they will need a change of mufti.

CANTAMATHS
Good luck to our Year 6s who are representing our team at Ohoka.

DISCO
This year's disco is on Friday, 9 August 6-8pm. The theme this year is Dancing Through the Decades - so pick your decade and find a costume to suit! Entry is $6 per child which includes a goody bag and with DJ Straya (Vikki) we promise great music, games and prizes for the most creative costumes. Clarkville students only at this event please and you will need to have your tea before you come as no outside food is allowed.

Please send your child with a named water bottle as we won't be providing bottles of water for the children again
this year, this is to reduce waste.

Tickets will be sold prior to the disco via Kindo https://shop.tgcl.co.nz . Please purchase your child's ticket by
midday on Friday, 9 August. There will be limited door sales so buying your ticket on Kindo will guarantee entry.
You don't need to bring your Kindo confirmation with you, we will have a list at the door on the night.

If you have any questions about the disco please don't hesitate to get in touch with Krissie on 0274 782 114

Hōpara and Matawara will be combining their talents, in across team groups of 5 students, and will be  creating their own company.

* Attitude (from the Parenting Place) - coming to Launch the idea of an Online Company, and the responsibility within this to all of the students of ASPLORE - FRIDAY week 2 at 9:30am.
* After the Attitude presentation, if you have any questions about how to access your child's Blog via Seesaw, then please come and see us, and we will help you through this.  OR, email us so we can make some changes from our end.
* Parent information Evening - 14 August - 5pm

Term 3, Week 1 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 1 of Term 3. We hope you had a lovely rest from the school routine, and we look forward to another term of great learning.

LIFE EDUCATION
We are very lucky to have Life Education working with us over the first week, and we have selected these goals to learn about:
  • Why is it important to show empathy towards others?
  • Students explore the concept of empathy, and how we can respond to others.
  • What is peer pressure and how can we deal with it?
  • Peer pressure has both physical and emotional effects. Students explore what those are, relate them to different real-life situations, and formulate strategies to deal with them.
  • How do the choices I make online affect me and others?
  • Our online behaviour affects others as well as ourselves. How can we make good choices in a digital environment? What differences are there between our behaviour in a digital environment compared to a physical one?

FIELD PLAYING
Due to our winter conditions, if your child wants to play on the grass, they will need a change of mufti.

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 10 of Term 2. This is our last week of a very busy and great learning term.  Thanks for your support throughout this term.

LEARNING CONFERENCES
We look forward to the learning conferences, where your child gets to spend approximately 20 minutes with you and share their learning.  At 15 minutes, our phone timer will go, to indicate that we need to finish within the next few minutes.  As we have back-to-back conferences, we do need to stick to our times.  Please have phones on silent.  Thanks for your consideration with this. You are welcome to come in and wait at the opposite end to where we are holding our conferences, to escape the cold.

Please take note of the early closure on Wednesday 3 July.

Learning conferences will be held:

Week 10
Tuesday 2 July             3.10pm – 7.30pm
Wednesday 3 July       1.30pm – 5.30pm

SILVERSTREAM
Dear Parents

We are planning a trip to Silverstream Reserve on Tuesday 2 July from 10am – 12.30pm. We will travel to and from the Reserve by bus and there is no cost for families.

Children are encouraged to come to school in warm mufti clothes with gumboots or strong shoes. Bringing a uniform to change into afterwards would be ideal.

We would love some parents to accompany us on this trip. Please let your team teachers know if you are available to help out.

NZ Playhouse Show

NZ Playhouse Show coming to Clarkville

For the last two years we have had NZ Playhouse visit the school to perform for us in the MPF. Their performances are of a high quality and have had us all laughing in our seats.

We are pleased to welcome back New Zealand Playhouse for their show The Tortoise and the Hare.

After beating the Gingerbread Man in the finals of ‘Who’s the Fastest Of Them All?’ everyone knows The Hare is the undisputed ‘Master of Faster’ and if they don’t they soon will thanks to the Hare’s boasting and gloating about their momentous momentum. In fact, the only creature the harebrained Hare hasn’t beaten in a race is the Tortoise, but why bother when everyone knows it would be a walk-over and a run-over. Or maybe not.

New Zealand Playhouse will be coming to us on Wednesday 12 June at 1.50pm. The cost is $5 per student and this amount will be added to your account.

Any parents who would like to join in the fun would be very welcome. The show will finish just before the end of the school day. There is no cost for parents but we would appreciate you arriving before 1.50pm to avoid interrupting the show.

Thank you for your support.
