Week 5 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 5 of Term 1.  In the next week, you should receive goals for Term 1 home, and a reflection post about Relating to Others while at Hanmer Springs Camp.

INQUIRY
Thanks to those that joined us at Silverstream Reserve for our school picnic on Thursday night, and getting to know our local reserve better.  Our Inquiry this year is based around the environment, and we will be spending time at this reserve to learn more about looking after the world we live in.

HANMER SPRINGS CAMP
If you are interested in viewing heaps of photos, please contact one of the parents that went on camp, and they can connect you to the Messenger site where you can view these.  We also have a display of some photos and 6-word narratives in our team room.

DEVICES
We really appreciate that if your child has a device that they are able to use and bring to school, that they do so, as we use these a lot with our learning.  We do have some at school for those that aren't able to do this.

GALA ART
This coming week, we will be working on our art for the Gala auction.  The PTA have kindly purchased various canvas boards, and the children have been shown some ideas.  You are welcome to chat about possible ideas as well.

SWIMMING
A notice has been sent home about the swimming sports.  We are unable to give you exact race times - please refer to the notice.

GALA
Our Gala this year is on Friday, 22nd of March.  Two PTA representatives came in on Thursday to talk about stalls that your children are interested in running.  Please have a chat with them, and send back the permission notice.  We do require parents to monitor their children, especially with setting up of stalls, the initial running, checking in, and completely packing down their stalls (including taking all rubbish and belongings home).  As we are environmentally conscious, we do promote rubbish free stalls.

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 4 of Term 1.  What a hot but fun week we have had!

HANMER SPRINGS CAMP
A big thank you to all parent volunteers who came, and to those who offered.  Without you, we would not be able to participate in such valuable activities.  Hopefully all of your belongings have made their way home, and if not, we will send the rest home on Monday.  Camp was incredibly hot, but we are proud with how the children coped.  Enjoy all of their memories.

Week 3 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 3 of Term 1.  We are all set for camp and looking forward to fun activities!

HANMER SPRINGS CAMP
A notice is coming home today with reminders of camp (we will email this too).  The packing list was sent home last year, and we have also put this on the blog.  We ask that you pack appropriate clothing - i.e. tee-shirts and long sleeved shirts, shorts and track pants, sneakers, hats, sunscreen, etc.  Singlet tops are inappropriate due to sunburn and other weather conditions.  It is very helpful if you name all your child's belongings, as we usually come home with lost property.  Please remember to pack a container of home baking

SWIMMING
We hope to swim most days each week.  If your child is unable to swim, can you please let us know (email, note, in person). Thanks.  Swimming sports are in Week 5.  A notice will be coming home shortly.

LUNCH
Hopefully you have heard of the changes to our lunch time.  Our children are also working very hard at getting as many tokens into our jar, so they can be rewarded for being in the right place at the right time.

GALA
Our Gala this year is on Friday, 22nd of March.  Some PTA representatives will be coming to speak with our team on Monday, to share possible ideas.  More information will come out about this later.

Term 1, Week 2 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 2 of Term 1.  We have slotted back into the school routine quickly, and it has been lovely to see everyone collaborating together.  The whakatauki above is so true, and we value your support and assistance.

SWIMMING
We hope to swim most days each week.  If your child is unable to swim, can you please let us know (email, note, in person). Thanks.

HANMER SPRINGS CAMP
A notice will be coming home next Friday with reminders of camp.  For the parents who are assisting us on camp, we will have a parent meeting on Thursday at 5pm in Hōpara.  The packing list was sent home last year, and we have also put this on the blog.  We ask that you have appropriate clothing - i.e. tee-shirts and long sleeved shirts, shorts and track pants, sneakers, hats, etc.  Singlet tops are inappropriate due to sunburn and other weather conditions.

MATHS
Hit the button is a fantastic game to help your children learn their basic facts.  They can select the multiplication or division tables they want to learn, or do all of them at once.  We expect all children to recall their basic facts by the end of Year 6 (this is with speed).  Please help them with this, as it also helps with their computation in all maths areas.
Basic facts game - a fun game that can be done at any level.

LUNCH
Hopefully you have heard of the changes to our lunch time.  This has been sent home in the newsletter this week - please read.  Our children are also working very hard at getting as many tokens into our jar, so they can be rewarded for being in the right place at the right time.
