Week 10 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 10 of Term 1.  We can't believe how fast the term is flying, and how much learning that is happening.

PATHWAYS
There are only 2 weeks of our term left.  Children are expected to have done at least 2 pathways by the end of this term.   Please keep having discussions with your child about what pathways they are doing.

INQUIRY
This term, we are looking into the meanings of ecosystems and biodiversity, and how they relate to us and Silverstream Reserve.  Ask your child what they have learned.  Here is another link that leads to an ecosystem game that is rather awesome (have a look around at the other games too): https://pbskids.org/plumlanding/games/ecosystem/feed_the_dingo.html.

HEAD LICE
Just a reminder to continue checking your child's hair often and treat if necessary, so we can eliminate all head lice.

SEESAW
Over the next couple of weeks, you should see reflections from your children and teachers.  Please take time to read these with your child.  They love getting your comments.

Week 9 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 9 of Term 1.  Thanks for all of the hard work you put into our gala.  The children can now hand in pathways - please see the notice that was sent home for the criteria.  We hope that you had successful bids on your child's art.

PATHWAYS
There is only 3 weeks of our term left.  Children are expected to have done at least 2 pathways by the end of this term.  We are getting a variety of pathways in for marking, and it is always exciting to see what your children do outside of school.  Please keep having discussions with your child about what pathways they are doing.  Just a reminder that we shared at goal setting at the beginning of the year - black and white level gets a medal, and the two other levels (blue/white and red/black) will receive a certificate.

SWIMMING
Swimming finishes today, as the water is getting a lot cooler.  We will resume this sometime during Term 4.

HEAD LICE
This still continues to be a problem.  Please check your child's hair often and treat if necessary, so we can eliminate all head lice.

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.  Our team is getting excited, as the Gala is on Friday, and we will be able to run our stalls.  Look out for the art auction of your child's masterpiece!

GALA
THIS FRIDAY!  Children will need to bring their own tables and chairs, and any other furniture that they will need.  If you are dropping these off, please place them at the rawhiti (end) of our team.  We really value your help, and thank you in advance for helping clean up your child's stall completely.

Week 7 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 7 of Term 1.  We hope you are getting excited about the Gala as much as we are.  This week, we will give children time to make signs for their stalls.  We welcome Emma and Dwayne to our team, who are two student teachers from University of Canterbury.  They will be working with the children over the next five weeks.

EGG ALLERGY
We have a student in the school with a severe egg allergy. We ask the whole community to support us with keeping this student safe by not sending eggs to school in lunches. Eggs in baking are fine but we request that egg sandwiches, hard-boiled eggs and bacon and egg pies are treats saved for home.

GALA
The PTA still need parents to assist with activities.  Please contact Krissie Clark if you are able to help (see the email that has been sent out).

Week 6 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 6 of Term 1.  Thank you for responding to your child's seesaw posts about their goal of relating to others.

GALA
Our Gala this year is on Friday, 22nd of March.  Please have a chat with your child about what they are doing, and send back the permission notice (thanks to those that have already).  We do require parents to check in with their children if they feel they are going to struggle, especially with setting up of stalls, the initial running, and completely packing down their stalls (including taking all rubbish and belongings home).  The PTA still need parents to assist with other activities, so we recommend that only one parent per group needs to check in occasionally.  Please contact Krissie Clark if you are able to help (see the email that has been sent out). As we are environmentally conscious, we do promote rubbish free stalls.

DEVICES
We really appreciate that if your child has a device that they are able to use and bring to school, that they do so, as we use these a lot with our learning.  We do have some at school for those that aren't able to do this.

SWIMMING
Our swimming sports were fantastic, and we now have a small group of children who will be going to Pegasus and North Canterbury Swimming Sports.  Best of luck, and be proud.  We will continue with swimming, and will start training (running and swimming) towards our tryathlon in Week 7.  This will also include biking on Heywards Road (on the tryathlon day).
