Term 1, Week 1 Home Communication

Whiriwhiria kia eke panuku!
(Choose to be more!)

Kia Ora,
Welcome to Week 1 of Term 1, our first week of the school year.   We hope you have had a lovely break from the school routine.  The staff in Hōpara this year are Chris Goldsack, Nick Burson, and Lynn Moffitt.

If you have misplaced your stationery or packing list, these are on the blog.

SWIMMING
We hope to swim most days each week.  If your child is unable to swim, can you please let us know (email, note, in person). Thanks.

MATHS
Hit the button is a fantastic game to help your children learn their basic facts.  They can select the multiplication or division tables they want to learn, or do all of them at once.  We expect all children to recall their basic facts by the end of Year 6 (this is with speed).  Please help them with this, as it also helps with their computation in all maths areas.
Basic facts game - a fun game that can be done at any level.

DIGITAL SAFETY
We have had some parents asking about how to keep their children safe online.  There is a product from Norton, that is a possibility.  Below is a link to this.

CALENDAR FOR THE REST OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
Week 1
* Goal setting day - Monday 28th January
* School (full days)  - Tuesday 29th January onwards

Week 2
* Waitangi Day - Wednesday 6 February
* Hōpara parent camp meeting - 5pm, Thursday 7 February

Have an awesome week!

Hōpara Stationery List - 2019
Dear Parents/Caregivers
This is a list of stationery items required for Hōpara.  You can order these online at
OfficeMax, or you can buy separately from any stationer’s shop.

Any books of the same type which are still largely unused, may be reused rather than
buying new.  We do not operate a shared use system, so we will be relying on parents
and children to ensure that the correct gear (pencils, pens, glue sticks, rulers, etc) are
at school and ready to use at all times.

Please name all of these items clearly with your child’s name and the name of the
subject of the book, before bringing the stationery to school.

Stationery may be brought to school on Goal Setting Day (28 January, 2019), however
this must be at school by 30 January, 2019. We cannot stress enough the importance of
clearly naming every item, as it can be impossible to track the owners of unnamed bits
and pieces.  Please note that your child is also responsible for any other stationery items
they choose to bring.
